murmurations II
wind quintet
2016
murmurations II is the second work of mine inspired by the synchronized movement of flocks of starlings. In this quintet, larger textures are led by singular small gestures, offering multiple ways of imitating swarm behavior. The music is organized in a series of tableaux, wherein instruments constantly play independently but share goals and content such as: melodic lines (i.e. articulated through micropolyphony or heterophony), focal pitches, and ornamentation.
The work is written for and dedicated to the Imani Winds.
